Northwest TerritoriesIn Northwest Territories seniors who require higher level of assistance and care, and are no longer able to live independently in their own homes or with family, may choose to move to a Long Term Care Facility such as assisted living, residential care home or nursing home. Long term care homes provide on-site 24-hour professional care and high level of personal care in a safe home-like setting. Services for seniors include assistance with activities of daily living, housekeeping, meals, social and recreational programs, and medication administration. To meet health and care needs of seniors, long term care facilities are staffed with a range of professionals from registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, resident care attendants, as well as personnel in laundry, kitchen, recreation, maintenance and administration. In Northwest Territories long-term care homes are government-funded and regulated by the Department of Health and Social Services.
