Retirement Hotspots in Ontario

When planning where to retire, seniors consider several important factors such as proximity to their family and social network, access to healthcare, transportation, cost of housing.

According to the latest census numbers from Statistics Canada, in 2011 nearly one in every five people living in Peterborough, ON was 65 or older, topping the list among Canadian municipalities.

St. Catharines, ON was 4th on the list.

Elliot Lake – a smaller community in Northern Ontario is also popular among retiree, where seniors account for 35.1 % of population.

Overall in Canada, the small town of Parkhurst on Vancouver Island had the highest percentage of seniors at 38.6%.
