Creating Resolutions You Can Keep

At the start of a new year many people set out goals or New Years Resolutions about what they hope to accomplish in the coming months.

Unfortunately, a large number of those individuals never achieve what they set out to do.

But it doesn’t have to be that way.

With some tips and dedication, you can make this the year you’ve always wanted.

Here are some expert ideas on how to make and keep resolutions.

Focus – Instead of setting out 3 or 4 things you would like to do this year decide on the one that is most important. Then, give it your complete attention.

Set SMART goals – Make goals that are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound. By clearly defining what you want to do and how to know when you have done it, you are more likely to be successful.

Write it down – Keeping a visual reminder of what you are trying to accomplish can go a long way in helping you stick with your plan. Once you have written down your goal post it somewhere you can see it when you need a reminder. For example, if you are trying to lose weight, post it to the fridge.

Schedule it – Mark in the specific action you are going to take in your calendar. This could be putting aside time for a workout if you have a fitness goal or make a plan to review your budget every week if you are trying to save money.

Track your progress – Have a detailed step by step plan to get where you want to go. Check back with it every few weeks to see how you are doing.

Baby steps – Some people fail because they think they must make big strides to accomplish their goals. Instead, taking a minor action today can still help you achieve the life change you are aiming for. Any small step towards your goal is better than not moving at all.

Don’t give up – There will be days that you may fail in your goals but don’t let those times discourage you from trying again. Learn from what went wrong and commit to doing better next time.

A new year is a great time to plan changes to your life. Everything feels new and there can be great hope and promise for the year to come.

With some practical advice and some commitment, you can make this year one of change.

What are some of the resolutions you’ll be making for 2018?
